Location: Newcastle

Salary: Circa £26000 per annum depending on experience

  • Are you a recent Graduate/ Post Graduate with a degree in Software Development, Data Science, Mathematics or similar related fields such as Mechanical Engineering or Physics?
  • Do you have at least 1+ year experience in Software Testing using including Python, HTML, Typescript, C++ and use of SQL

 

Main Purpose of Role:

This role will form part of a small team responsible for developing engineering assessments which predominantly use programming languages including Python, HTML, Typescript, C++ and use of SQL. The assessments implement a range of existing and novel mechanical engineering assessments to solve oil and gas engineering challenges.

The candidate will develop and implement robust test plans to ensure QA/QC compliance of new and existing features in a fully cloud-based engineering platform.

The candidate will assist the team in ongoing support ticket resolution with existing clients.

As business needs arise the candidate may have the opportunity to work directly on code development to rectify any bugs identified, and to assist the development team with new feature implementation. This will give the candidate an opportunity to develop their own coding competencies, candidates with experience in any of; Python, HTML, Typescript, CSS and SQL will have an advantage.

 

Testing:

  • Develop & execute test cases using Azure Testing suite within Azure DevOps environment.
  • Develop test suites with language specific tools for python & typescript
  • Execute test suites as required
  • Perform User acceptance testing and regression testing

 

Operations & Support:

  • Monitor and track resolution of issues using JIRA system with additional support from the team as required
  • Interface with clients as required
  • The role would suit a graduate or early-stage Operations & testing engineer or may be suitable for a candidate with more significant experience of developing and executing test plans . Ideally the candidate will have 1+ years of experience post-graduation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans and test cases
  • Identify and document bugs using Azure DevOps
  • Monitor and maintain support ticket resolution using JIRA
  • Assist team with clarifying and executing remedial actions as required
  • Communicate with Clients and Stakeholders
  • Research and implement appropriate methodologies and tools where required
  • Documentation and standardisation of methods were appropriate
  • Writing and presenting short reports that describe methodology, define input data, summarize results or to correctly document requirements for remediation of support tickets
  • Perform UAT and Regression testing as per requirement

 

Knowledge / Experience (Skills):

  • 1+ years of experience  in testing software applications
  • Basic Knowledge of User acceptance and regression t/testing
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge in technical writing for writing test plans and reports;
  • Organizational and time management skills;
  • Self-motivating with ability to work independently or as part of a dynamic team;
  • Basic understanding of Agile and Azure DevOps

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Python, Angular, Typescript & HTML/CSS 
  • Understanding of data structures, data modelling and software architecture;
  • Exposure and appreciation of mechanical engineering concepts, and the Oil & Gas Industry are considered as advantages.
