Penspen www.penspen.com are looking for a dynamic Lead Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

 

 

Main Purpose of Role:

 

The E&I Lead Technician is responsible for delivering high-quality electrical and instrumentation (E&I) maintenance across high-pressure (HP) gas network assets. The role ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with client specifications and regulatory standards.

In addition to hands-on maintenance, the role includes responsibility for supervising a technician, conducting audits, and producing clear, accurate technical reports to support compliance and performance monitoring.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Operational Delivery

  • Carry out planned and reactive E&I maintenance on HP gas network assets in accordance with client requirements
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimise downtime
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with safety, quality, and compliance standards
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and asset integrity across all work sites
  • Take ownership of allocated assets and ensure all maintenance activities are delivered end-to-end in line with programme and client requirements.
  • Support planning and preparation of works, ensuring all resources, permits and materials are in place prior to execution.

Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and technical guidance to one direct report
  • Ensure safe systems of work are followed at all times
  • Support the development and competency of the technician
  • Drive high standards of safety, quality and performance, acting as a role model within the field.
  • Maintain a balance between hands-on delivery and supervisory responsibilities to support operational efficiency.

 

Reporting & Compliance

  • Complete and submit detailed maintenance reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity
  • Undertake audits as required by the client, ensuring full compliance with procedures and standards
  • Submit audit reports within required timeframes
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, defects identified, and actions taken. 

Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a professional representative of Penspen when engaging with client personnel
  • Ensure client requirements and expectations are understood and met consistently
  • Communicate effectively regarding job status, issues, and resolutions
  • Work closely with Operations Supervisors and Scheduling teams to ensure efficient planning and delivery of works.

 

Knowledge / Experience (Skills):

  • Proven experience in E&I maintenance within gas, utilities, or similar asset-intensive industries
  • Strong understanding of high-pressure gas systems (desirable)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience in fault finding, inspection, and maintenance of E&I systems
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff
  • Strong safety mindset and commitment to compliance
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a mobile role
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Professional communication and stakeholder engagement
  • High attention to detail and quality of work

 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Electrical / Instrumentation qualification (e.g. HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. CompEx, Gas Safety – desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Financial Dimensions:

  • Ensure all timesheets submitted
  • Ensure all quotes are in line with Penspen financial reporting policy

 

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Jobs completed on time and within agreed schedules
  • No return visits required within 2 weeks of job completion
  • All audits completed and submitted within 2 days
  • OH&S Metrics as issued by line manager
  • First-time fix rate achieved in line with contract expectations
  • Compliance audit scores maintained in line with client requirements
  •  Productivity and utilisation targets met as defined by the business

  • Working with the Company to ensure a high standard of Health, Safety & Environmental management by following the site HSE procedures. Ensuring compliance with all relevant quality standards/procedures in your area. This includes reporting any deviations from these standards/procedures, completing corrective actions and making recommendations to prevent similar deviations in the future.
